A RESOLUTION
To recognize Tuesday, March 17, 2026, as Nurse Practitioner Day at the Louisiana State
Capitol.
WHEREAS, nurse practitioners play a critical role as trusted providers of health care
for patients in our state; and
WHEREAS, nurse practitioners work to expand access to health care in communities
across our state, promote health equity in care, and improve health outcomes for all; and
WHEREAS, patients depend on more than four hundred thirty-one thousand licensed
nurse practitioners in the United States, with more than six thousand two hundred fifty
licensed in Louisiana, to diagnose, manage, and treat chronic health conditions; and
WHEREAS, nurse practitioners provide high-quality primary, acute, and specialty
healthcare services while emphasizing health promotion, disease prevention, health
education, and counseling to help guide patients to make smarter health and lifestyle
decisions every day; and
WHEREAS, patients' confidence in health care that is delivered by nurse
practitioners is evident through more than one billion visits made annually to nurse
practitioners across the country; and
WHEREAS, more than five decades of research demonstrate the high quality of care
provided by nurse practitioners; and
WHEREAS, according to the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, better
utilization of nurse practitioners through modernized state laws and improved policies
creates better health outcomes through a more accessible, efficient, cost-effective, and
higher-quality healthcare system; and
WHEREAS, more than half the nation, including twenty-seven states, the District of
Columbia, Guam, and the Northern Mariana Islands, has adopted full practice authority
legislation that offers patients full and direct access to the outstanding care provided by
nurse practitioners; and

WHEREAS, leading governmental and policy entities, including the National
Academy of Medicine, the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, the National
Governors Association, and the Federal Trade Commission, have taken notice of the benefits
of providing patients full and direct access to health care delivered by nurse practitioners;
and
WHEREAS, nurse practitioners serve as the provider of choice for many Louisiana
residents and play a pivotal role in the health and welfare of our communities.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend nurse practitioners of this state for faithfully providing the highest
quality of patient-centered health care and does hereby recognize Tuesday, March 17, 2026,
as Nurse Practitioner Day at the Louisiana State Capitol.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
Louisiana Association of Nurse Practitioners.
