SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 25

A RESOLUTION
To designate March 17, 2026, as Louisiana Professional Surveyors Day at the Louisiana
State Capitol and to recognize National Surveyors Week, which honors the Louisiana
Society of Professional Surveyors for its contributions in protecting property rights,
supporting economic development, and promoting the land surveying profession in
Louisiana.
WHEREAS, land surveying is among the oldest and most foundational professions
in the United States, providing the measurements and boundaries upon which property
ownership, infrastructure, and communities are built; and
WHEREAS, as the United States commemorates the 250th anniversary of the signing
of the Declaration of Independence in 2026, it is appropriate to recognize that land surveying
played a critical role in the development and expansion of the nation; and
WHEREAS, many early American leaders who helped shape the nation were also
land surveyors, including George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Abraham Lincoln, and
it was the surveying work of those early American leaders that contributed to the orderly
division of land, the establishment of property rights, and the development of communities
across the expanding United States; and
WHEREAS, the principles of accurate measurement and defined property boundaries
established by early surveyors helped lay the legal and economic framework that supported,
and continues to support, private property rights and economic growth throughout the nation;
and
WHEREAS, in the state of Louisiana, professional land surveyors provide essential
services that support transportation infrastructure, public works, residential and commercial
development, flood protection systems, and critical energy and industrial facilities that help
drive the state's economy; and

WHEREAS, professional land surveyors play a vital role in coastal restoration and
protection efforts, assisting with mapping, elevation data, and land boundary determinations
necessary for major projects that safeguard Louisiana's coast; and
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Society of Professional Surveyors represents professional
land surveyors across the state and is dedicated to advancing the profession through
education, professional standards, public outreach, and legislative advocacy; and
WHEREAS, National Surveyors Week, observed each year in March, highlights the
important work performed by professional land surveyors and recognizes their contributions
to communities and economic development across the country.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby designate March 17, 2026, as Louisiana Professional Surveyors Day at the
Louisiana State Capitol and does hereby commend the Louisiana Society of Professional
Surveyors for its dedication to protecting property rights, advancing professional standards,
and supporting the growth and development of Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
Louisiana Society of Professional Surveyors.
