SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 29

A RESOLUTION
To designate Monday, April 13, 2026, as Knock Knock Children's Museum Day at the
Louisiana State Capitol and to recognize the museum's contributions to early
childhood education, family engagement, and economic vitality in Louisiana.
WHEREAS, Knock Knock Children's Museum, a nonprofit educational and cultural
organization located in BREC's City-Brooks Park in Baton Rouge, opened in August 2017
with the support of one million twenty-five thousand dollars in state funding appropriated
in 2013; and
WHEREAS, the museum is grounded in research demonstrating the critical role of
play in early brain development and focuses on unique and impactful, playful learning
experiences, and bonding with supportive adults for children from birth through age eight;
and
WHEREAS, since opening, Knock Knock Children's Museum has welcomed more
than one million five hundred thousand visitors, including more than one hundred forty
thousand annually, with families traveling from all sixty-four Louisiana parishes, all fifty
states, and numerous countries; and
WHEREAS, the museum strengthens the quality of life and economy of the Capital
Region while helping close knowledge and opportunity gaps through its Access for All
programs, which serve more than twenty thousand children each year, including children
with disabilities, special needs, and families with limited financial resources; and
WHEREAS, through its eighteen interactive learning zones, the museum provides
a safe and inclusive space where children and families learn together while building early
literacy, critical thinking, creativity, STEAM skills, and exploring career pathways; and
WHEREAS, Knock Knock Children's Museum also supports educators across
Louisiana by providing professional learning opportunities that promote innovative teaching
strategies in early childhood and elementary education; and

WHEREAS, the museum serves as a valuable community resource that connects
families to regional experts and expertise, strengthens family bonds, and prepares
Louisiana's youngest learners for future success.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby designate Monday, April 13, 2026, as Knock Knock Children's Museum Day
at the Louisiana State Capitol and commends the museum for its outstanding contributions
to early childhood education, community engagement, and economic development in
Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate expresses its appreciation for the
museum's ongoing mission to be a community spark for engaging, playful learning
experiences that inspire and support lifelong learning, and in opening doors for children to
a world of opportunity and possibility.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
chairman of the board, Alexandra Layfield, and the executive director of the Knock Knock
Children's Museum.
