SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 36

A RESOLUTION
To designate Tuesday, March 24, 2026, as the University of Louisiana System Day at the
Louisiana State Capitol.
WHEREAS, the University of Louisiana System (UL System) is crucial for both
Louisiana's academic and economic prosperity, thanks to its fundamental mission to
emphasize teaching, research, and community outreach to improve the well-being of
Louisiana's residents; and
WHEREAS, the UL System is Louisiana's largest system of higher education and its
universities have a $13.6 billion annual economic impact; and
WHEREAS, the UL System is composed of nine distinctly vital and geographically
diverse member institutions, including Grambling State University, Louisiana Tech
University, McNeese State University, Nicholls State University, Northwestern State
University, Southeastern Louisiana University, University of Louisiana at Lafayette,
University of Louisiana at Monroe and the University of New Orleans; and
WHEREAS, the UL System supports more than thirteen thousand dual enrollment
students per year and has an exceptional combined enrollment of more than eighty-four
thousand highly motivated students; and
WHEREAS, the UL System offers a comprehensive education in a broad number of
fields, including education, nursing, cybersecurity, maritime, humanities, physical sciences,
music, allied health, engineering, social studies, pharmacy, business administration, and
public administration; and
WHEREAS, the member institutions of the UL System award more than fifteen
thousand degrees annually, significantly contributing to the education and workforce
development of the state of Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, seventy-five percent of the graduates in the UL System who receive
TOPS awards remain in Louisiana after graduation, therefore strengthening Louisiana's
economy and communities; and

WHEREAS, one in sixteen jobs in Louisiana is supported by UL System member
institutions, underscoring the system's vital role in the state's workforce and economic
vitality; and
WHEREAS, to prevail in a twenty-first century economy, the UL System identifies
five core competencies that guide its actions: communication competence, critical and
creative problem solving, adaptive resilience, cultural competence, and self-reflective
awareness; and
WHEREAS, the UL System faculty contributes to a world-class knowledge base that
is transferable to educational, professional, cultural, and economic enterprises, and their
extensive talents and resources are used to solve economic, environmental, and social
challenges; and
WHEREAS, the researchers of the UL System have persistently made innovative
strides resulting in numerous invention disclosures and patent applications; and
WHEREAS, the University of Louisiana System is committed to creating the most
educated generation in Louisiana's history, and the system is deserving of the highest
recognition for its many achievements.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby designate Tuesday, March 24, 2026, as University of Louisiana System Day at
the Louisiana State Capitol and does hereby extend enduring appreciation to the system for
its many contributions to the state of Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
President and CEO of the University of Louisiana System.
