SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 38

A RESOLUTION
To designate Wednesday, April 15, 2026, as AARP Louisiana's Eleventh Annual Caregiver
Day at the Louisiana State Capitol.
WHEREAS, Louisiana ranks forty-fifth in the nation on the Long Term Services and
Supports State Scorecard which evaluates how states perform in long-term care services for
older adults and individuals with disabilities; and
WHEREAS, an estimated nine hundred seventy-three thousand family caregivers in
Louisiana provide care to adult relatives or friends, with the economic value of this care
estimated to be roughly six billion nine hundred million dollars annually; and
WHEREAS, eleven thousand eight hundred and twenty individuals are on waiting
lists to receive assistance with activities of daily living in their homes and to live in the
setting of their choice; and
WHEREAS, almost ninety percent of older adults in Louisiana who need assistance
with activities of daily living wish to remain in their homes and communities with the
support of friends and family as they age; and
WHEREAS, almost three-fourths of older people living in a community who receive
personal assistance rely exclusively on unpaid family caregivers for help.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby designate Wednesday, April 15, 2026, as AARP Louisiana's Eleventh Annual
Caregiver Day at the Louisiana State Capitol.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Mr.
Andrew Muhl, Director of Advocacy at AARP Louisiana.
