SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 4

A RESOLUTION
To commend and congratulate Lana Grace Overton on being selected as the 2025-2026
"Student of the Year" at Denham Springs High School in Livingston Parish.
WHEREAS, Lana Grace Overton has been named the 2025-2026 "Student of the
Year" at Denham Springs High School, an honor that reflects her exceptional dedication to
academic excellence, leadership, and service; and
WHEREAS, throughout her high school career, Lana Grace Overton pursued a
rigorous course of study that included thirteen advanced placement classes, along with dual
enrollment and honors coursework, demonstrating intellectual curiosity, discipline, and a
strong commitment to learning; and
WHEREAS, Lana Grace Overton achieved an exemplary academic record, earning
a weighted grade point average of 4.41 and an unweighted grade point average of 4.0,
placing her among the top students of her graduating class; and
WHEREAS, Lana Grace Overton earned a composite score of 34 on the ACT, with
scores of 29 in math, 36 in science, 36 in reading, and 36 in English, reflecting exceptional
proficiency across all academic disciplines; and
WHEREAS, Lana Grace Overton has been an active member of numerous school
organizations and has held leadership roles in clubs focused on promoting volunteerism,
school improvement, and positive student engagement; and
WHEREAS, Lana Grace Overton has completed more than seven hundred hours of
volunteer service during her high school career, generously giving her time to her church's
children's ministry, a low-cost community veterinary clinic, various animal rescue
organizations, and school-based service initiatives; and
WHEREAS, beyond her academic and service commitments, Lana Grace Overton
maintains a well-rounded lifestyle, enjoying outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking, and
running, as well as reading and drawing, reflecting her life's balance, creativity, and personal
discipline; and

WHEREAS, Lana Grace Overton plans to attend Louisiana State University in the
fall to study biology, with the goal of pursuing a career in veterinary medicine, a path that
aligns with her academic strengths and demonstrated commitment to animal care and
community service; and
WHEREAS, Lana Grace Overton's achievements bring great pride to Denham
Springs High School, Livingston Parish Public Schools, and the state of Louisiana, and serve
as an inspiration to her peers and community.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend and congratulate Lana Grace Overton on being selected as the 2025-
2026 "Student of the Year" at Denham Springs High School in Livingston Parish.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Lana
Grace Overton.
