A RESOLUTION
To recognize and acknowledge the significant contributions of the community and technical
colleges in Louisiana to the education and training of students and workers and to
designate Wednesday, March 25, 2026, as Louisiana Community and Technical
College Day at the Louisiana State Capitol.
WHEREAS, community and technical colleges serve a pivotal role in the state's
postsecondary education system that is essential in recognizing and meeting the needs of the
workforce in Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, the state's twelve community and technical colleges are Baton Rouge
Community College, Bossier Parish Community College, Central Louisiana Technical
Community College, Delgado Community College, Fletcher Technical Community College,
Louisiana Delta Community College, Northshore Technical Community College, Northwest
Louisiana Technical Community College, Nunez Community College, River Parishes
Community College, South Louisiana Community College, SOWELA Technical
Community College, and each provides high quality education and technical training at an
affordable cost that enable students and workers to become productive citizens and compete
successfully for better employment opportunities; and
WHEREAS, these community and technical colleges work in cooperation and
collaboration with business, industry, and government to provide workforce training to
respond to both educational and skilled labor needs while enhancing economic development

opportunities not only in the communities served by the institutions but also throughout the
state; and
WHEREAS, the educational opportunity provided by community and technical
colleges in Louisiana is a vital resource to our communities offering a wide range of
functions and services, including two-year associate degrees and opportunities for students
to transfer to four-year universities, adult basic education, certificate and diploma programs
in skill and technical occupations for workers, and workforce training and retraining
opportunities for business and industry, which include tailored training programs driven by
market needs; and
WHEREAS, while many employment opportunities in the state require at least some
training beyond high school, community and technical colleges provide learning
environments that are poised to be responsive, accessible, service-oriented, and cost-
effective to assist citizens in meeting the challenges of the technological advancements in
the increasingly changing workplace; and
WHEREAS, the month of March has been designated as National Community
College Month to recognize the significant contributions of community colleges throughout
the nation; and
WHEREAS, the institutions comprising the Louisiana Community and Technical
College System, each with a unique institutional mission provide educational value to
students, work collaboratively with business and industry in meeting workforce needs,
support the community and state economic development efforts, and contribute to the
lifelong learning needs of the residents of Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, in recognition of the significant contributions of these educational
institutions throughout the nation, March has been designated as National Community
College Month.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby recognize and acknowledge the significant contributions of the community and
technical colleges in Louisiana to the education and training of students and workers and
does hereby designate Wednesday, March 25, 2026, as Louisiana Community and Technical
College Day at the Louisiana State Capitol.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Richard Nelson, president of the Louisiana Community and Technical College System.
