SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 46

A RESOLUTION
To designate Wednesday, April 1, 2026, as Professional Landscape Architecture Day at the
Louisiana State Capitol and to commend the members for the essential role
landscape architects play in shaping a resilient and enduring American landscape.
WHEREAS, the licensed practice of landscape architecture is ensuring that outdoor
environments, from therapeutic gardens and playgrounds, to complex stormwater and
transportation systems, are designed with technical rigor and ethical responsibility; and
WHEREAS, landscape architecture encompasses the analysis, planning, design, and
cultivation of the natural and built environment, in addition to shaping places that are
functional, durable, and accessible; and
WHEREAS, landscape architects are uniquely qualified to address challenges such
as flooding, coastal land loss, and urban heat through sustainable and resilient design
strategies; and
WHEREAS, landscape architects contribute to economic development, tourism, and
environmental protection, strengthening communities throughout urban, suburban, and rural
areas of the state by applying principles of science, technology, engineering, and
mathematics to the design of parks, streetscapes, campuses, transportation corridors, and
public spaces across Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, as the United States approaches the "America 250" celebration, it is
recognized that landscape architects have historically shaped, and continue to steward the
American landscape, creating enduring places that embody democratic values and cultural
heritage, and advance opportunities for future generations; and
WHEREAS, the month of April is recognized as World Landscape Architecture
Month, celebrated and founded by the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA),
highlighting the impact of the profession nationwide, and celebrated under the theme of
"Landscape Architecture in Action" which recognizes the profession's tangible impact on
urban, suburban, and rural communities.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby designate Wednesday, April 1, 2026, as Professional Landscape Architecture
Day at the Louisiana State Capitol and does commend the members for the essential role
landscape architects play in shaping a resilient and enduring American landscape.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
president of the Louisiana Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects.
