A RESOLUTION
To commend and congratulate Melissa Adams on the occasion of her retirement from
Ochsner Medical Center - West Bank and to recognize her many accomplishments
throughout her career.
WHEREAS, after fifty-two years of dedicated service to the healthcare profession,
Melissa Adams is celebrating the occasion of her retirement; and
WHEREAS, Melissa has been a steadfast advocate for patients, a trusted leader for
nurses, a guiding force for the organization, and most importantly, a friend to everyone she
encounters; and
WHEREAS, her career has been nothing short of extraordinary; and
WHEREAS, while there is hardly a department at Ochsner Medical Center - West
Bank that she has not touched, it was the collaborative and team-focused environment of the
operating room where she found her true calling; and
WHEREAS, she started her career as a staff nurse in the operating room before being
promoted to director of surgical services, which included OR, PACU, anesthesia, endoscopy,
same-day surgery, and the sterile processing department; and
WHEREAS, when promoted to assistant vice president, Melissa assumed
responsibilities for the emergency department and critical care before becoming chief
nursing officer in 2010; and
WHEREAS, Melissa was instrumental in developing Senate Bill No. 136 of the 2022
Regular Session to address workplace violence in healthcare settings; and
WHEREAS, her career reflects an unwavering commitment to excellence,
compassion, and the advancement of nursing practice; and
WHEREAS, as chief nursing officer, Melissa shaped clinical care, mentored
hundreds of nurses, and led with integrity, vision, and heart; and

WHEREAS, while Melissa is retiring from the profession, she certainly has no plans
to slow down, and is looking forward to celebrating her parents' upcoming seventy-fifth
wedding anniversary, traveling with family, and spending time with her four young
grandchildren.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend and congratulate Melissa Adams on the occasion of her retirement
from Ochsner Medical Center - West Bank and to recognize her many accomplishments
throughout her career.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Melissa Adams.
