SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 60

A RESOLUTION
To recognize Wednesday, April 8, 2026, as Big Brothers Big Sisters Day at the Louisiana
State Capitol.
WHEREAS, research demonstrates that youth served by Big Brothers Big Sisters
programs experience improved academic outcomes, stronger relationships, higher
aspirations, and greater long-term economic success; and
WHEREAS, across our state, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Louisiana, Big
Brothers Big Sisters of Acadiana, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater New Orleans are
working to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and
promise of youth; and
WHEREAS, these organizations are working to unlock the potential of Louisiana's
children by creating and supporting relationships between young people, ages six to young
adulthood, known as "Littles", and caring volunteer mentors, known as "Bigs"; and
WHEREAS, innovative initiatives, such as the Big Futures program, are expanding
the organization's reach through a dual-impact mentoring model in which high school
students serve as mentors to younger youth while also receiving structured
workforce-readiness programming; and
WHEREAS, participants in Big Futures, known as "High School Bigs", develop
leadership skills, strengthen academic engagement, and gain exposure to financial literacy,
professional development, postsecondary pathway planning, and more, while modeling
positive behaviors and academic commitment for younger students; and
WHEREAS, this model not only supports the growth and success of mentees, but
also prepares participating high school students to become engaged citizens and role models;
and
WHEREAS, during the 2025 fiscal year reporting period alone, the organization
served 685 youth statewide, recruited 481 prospective volunteers, and served 400 new youth
through the expanded one-to-one, High School Bigs, and small-group mentoring models;

WHEREAS, the unwavering commitment demonstrated by Big Brothers Big Sisters
of Acadiana, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Louisiana, and Big Brothers Big Sisters
of Greater New Orleans in their mission to ignite the potential of Louisiana's youth is
deserving of recognition and commendation.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby designate Wednesday, April 8, 2026, as Big Brothers Big Sisters Day at the
Louisiana State Capitol.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Big
Brothers Big Sisters of Acadiana, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Louisiana, and Big
Brothers Big Sisters of Greater New Orleans.
