SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 62

A RESOLUTION
To express the sincere and heartfelt condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of
Louisiana upon the death of Joseph Cassimere.
WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the citizens of St. Landry
Parish, and the state of Louisiana, learned that the Almighty God in His infinite wisdom
called Joseph Cassimere on February 12, 2026, at the age of seventy-six to eternal rest; and
WHEREAS, Matthew 25:23 says "Well done good and faithful servant!" and many
who describe Joseph Cassimere as a devoted husband, loving father, caring brother, lifelong
educator, dedicated farmer, colleague, and member of the Mohorn Missionary Baptist
Church agree that he lived and earned that reputation; and
WHEREAS, Cassimere attended Southern University A&M College in Baton Rouge,
Louisiana, obtaining his Bachelor of Science Degree in Recreational Arts in 1973;
completed the Teacher Education Program at Southern University in Baton Rouge in 1976;
earned a Master of Educational Leadership from Southern University in Baton Rouge in
1978, and pursued an additional thirty hours of graduate coursework; and
WHEREAS, Cassimere's faithfulness over his God given talents resulted in
additional responsibilities and he devoted forty-seven years of service in the field of
education, rising from the classroom to serve as a teacher, assistant principal, and the first
principal of Northwest High School; and
WHEREAS, Cassimere broke barriers as the first African-American educator to lead
the district in the capacity of interim superintendent, serving with a "genuine concern for the
success and well-being of every child"; and
WHEREAS, Cassimere's contributions extended into the athletic arena as a
distinguished official for the Louisiana High School Athletic Association from 1973 to 1990
in basketball and football, earning him the Distinguished Service Award for his commitment
to youth sports; and

WHEREAS, Cassimere found fulfillment in farming with his brother planting in
hope and harvesting with gratitude crops such as corn, okra, sweet potatoes, and field peas
on the family farm; and he used his gift of farming and leadership to serve as president of
the Agromen Association; and
WHEREAS, having accepted Christ at an early age, Cassimere was baptized at
Mohorn Missionary Baptist Church and remained a lifelong member, serving as both a
member and president of the Trustee Board; and
WHEREAS, he is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Patricia Ann Johnson
Cassimere; a son and daughter-in-law, Mark Lamar Cassimere and Dr. Crystal Cassimere;
a grandchild, Jax Jordan Cassimere; one brother, Raymond Paul Cassimere (Angela); one
sister, Diane Claudia Cassimere; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and
friends; and
WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his parents, Joshua Forrest and Christana
Cassimere; a brother, Joshua Forrest Cassimere Jr.; a nephew, Kelvin Kyle Cassimere; and
his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Vincent and Viola Johnson; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Cassimere will be deeply missed and his legacy of love, service,
leadership, and integrity will live on in all who were blessed to know him.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Joseph Cassimere
and extends enduring appreciation for the tremendous pride and honor that he brought to the
St. Landry Parish community and the state of Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
family of Joseph Cassimere.
