A RESOLUTION
To designate Monday, April 13, 2026, as Social Work Day at the Louisiana State Capitol.
WHEREAS, social workers work diligently to positively impact the lives of millions
of Americans daily, in many settings, including hospitals, schools, child welfare agencies,
community centers, and government; and
WHEREAS, for more than a century, social workers have strived to improve human
well-being, advocate for their communities, and support basic needs with many having
reported that they entered the profession out of a deep commitment to uplift, defend, and
transform the lives of people, their families, and the community; and
WHEREAS, the Code of Ethics for social workers emphasizes service, integrity,
competence, the dignity and worth of every person, the importance of human relationships,
and fairness and opportunity in all communities; and
WHEREAS, social workers serve individuals, families, and communities of diverse
backgrounds, including those experiencing economic hardship, discrimination, displacement,
and other life changes, and help connect people to essential support and community
resources; and
WHEREAS, social workers assist individuals in navigating trauma, grief, health
concerns, natural disasters, and public health emergencies, while working to strengthen
resilience and long-term stability; and
WHEREAS, the profession works to reduce barriers that limit opportunity, promote
respectful dialogue, and support policies and practices that empower clients; and
WHEREAS, social workers promote safety and positive outcomes when providing
care and coordination of care for clients experiencing mental health conditions, substance
use, or family instability, including child welfare concerns; and
WHEREAS, this year's theme for social worker month is "Social Workers: Uplift.
Defend. Transform.", shining a light on the resolute spirit of social workers who transform
lives while bringing hope and healing to the communities they serve.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby designate Monday, April 13, 2026, as Social Work Day at the Louisiana State
Capitol and does hereby commend and celebrate, along with the National Association of
Social Workers, social workers across the state who uplift, defend, and positively transform
the lives of individuals and communities in Louisiana.
