A RESOLUTION
To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the
passing of Assistant Chief City Marshal, Kirby Shawn Dawson.
WHEREAS, it is with profound sorrow and deep respect that the Louisiana Senate
honors the life and legacy of Assistant Chief City Marshal Kirby Shawn Dawson of Caddo
Parish, a devoted public servant whose life was marked by integrity, compassion, and an
unwavering commitment to his community; and
WHEREAS, Kirby Shawn Dawson was born on May 28, 1971, to Otis and Sara
Dawson, and as a lifelong resident of Caddo Parish, he carried a deep love for his
community and a calling to serve others throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, he was a devoted husband to his wife, Tasha Dawson, sharing over 28
years of love and partnership, and a proud and loving father to Chris, Loghan, and Shawn,
with his family serving as the foundation and greatest joy of his life; and
WHEREAS, a graduate of Huntington High School, Class of 1989, he continued his
education at Southern University and later earned a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice
from Wiley College, preparing for a life of service and leadership; and
WHEREAS, Assistant Chief Dawson began his law enforcement career with the
Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office in 2002, later joining the Shreveport City Marshal's Office in
2005, where he faithfully served for nearly two decades in various roles, including Court
Deputy, Outside Deputy, Court Supervisor, and ultimately Assistant Chief Deputy Marshal,
a position he earned through dedication, professionalism, and leadership; and
WHEREAS, throughout his distinguished career, he was known not only for his
leadership, but for his genuine care for people, earning the respect of colleagues and the trust
of the community he served; and
WHEREAS, he was widely known as a man who earned respect both in and out of
uniform, carrying himself with a quiet strength, authenticity, and consistency that made him

approachable, relatable, and deeply respected by all who encountered him; and
WHEREAS, Assistant Chief Dawson possessed a rare ability to balance discipline
with compassion, authority with humility, and leadership with approachability, making him
not only a respected officer, but a trusted mentor, role model, and friend to many; and
WHEREAS, one of his greatest passions was his work with the D.A.R.E. program,
where he held a leadership role across the state of Louisiana, dedicating himself to
mentoring and uplifting young people, and leaving a lasting impact through encouragement,
guidance, and service; and
WHEREAS, those who knew him best remember not just the badge he wore, but the
man behind it; steady, genuine, and always willing to listen, encourage, and stand in the gap
for others; and
WHEREAS, his presence brought a sense of calm, confidence, and reassurance, and
his ability to make others feel seen, heard, and valued is a legacy that will endure far beyond
his years of service; and
WHEREAS, his impact is perhaps best reflected in the words shared by City Marshal
Jefferson, who stated, "Thank you for being my friend. For listening, for encouragement, for
guidance, and for inspiration. You make everything better just by being in my life", a
testament to the character, friendship, and lasting influence of Assistant Chief Dawson; and
WHEREAS, beyond his service in law enforcement, he was a man of strong faith and
character, whose kindness, steady presence, and servant leadership touched countless lives;
and
WHEREAS, his passing on April 6, 2026, following a sudden medical emergency,
is a tremendous loss to his family, the Shreveport City Marshal's Office, and the entire
community he so faithfully served; and
WHEREAS, his legacy will live on through the lives he touched, the youth he
mentored, the family he loved, and the community he served with honor and distinction.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby honor the life and legacy of Assistant Chief City Marshal Kirby Shawn Dawson
and extends heartfelt condolences to his wife, children, family, colleagues, and all who
mourn his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
family of Assistant Chief City Marshal, Kirby Shawn Dawson as an expression of our
deepest sympathy and appreciation for his life of service.
