A RESOLUTION
To commend and congratulate Mr. Gerald "Jerry" Badgley for his extraordinary
contributions to the Shreveport community and to offer congratulations and best
wishes upon the occasion of his retirement after more than twenty years of dedicated
service as principal of C.E. Byrd High School in Shreveport, Louisiana.
WHEREAS, Principal Badgley is a graduate of the C.E. Byrd High School Class of
1976; and
WHEREAS, he returned to the classroom at his alma mater in the 1980s and has
served as principal since 2005; and
WHEREAS, Principal Badgley's unmatched leadership has witnessed growth,
change, and continued excellence while honoring the traditions that make C.E. Byrd High
School special; and
WHEREAS, he has been recognized as a C.E. Byrd Athletic Hall of Fame Inductee,
an Educator of Distinction, and Principal of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Principal Badgley's career reflects a lifelong commitment to C.E. Byrd
High School and to public education in Shreveport, Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, he has played a pivotal role in the growth and transformation of C.E.
Byrd High School, fostering significant advancements in school curriculum as a result of his
leadership and guidance, including a new football practice field and enhanced facilities; and

WHEREAS, Principal Badgley's efforts have highlighted the impact of school
leaders in the community, whose alumni include current Louisiana State Senators, Thomas
A. Pressly and Sam L. Jenkins Jr.; former state legislators including Senator Virginia
Kilpatrick Shehee, Senator Phil Short, Senator and Judge Robert Kostelka; former state
representatives Art Sour, Frank Fulco, and James C. Gardner; United States Senator J.
Bennett Johnston Jr., Saxby Chambliss, a United States Senator from Georgia; John Howard
Dalton, former United States Secretary of the Navy; Brandon Friedman, former deputy
assistant secretary of the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development;
Tom Jarriel, ABC News journalist; United States District Judge Tom Stagg; United States
Circuit Court Judge Jacques L. Wiener Jr.; Louisiana Supreme Court Justices Jeffrey P.
Victory and Pike Hall Jr.; and many other outstanding public servants; and
WHEREAS, C.E. Byrd High School recently celebrated its 100th graduating class
on June 5th through 7th, 2025, culminating in the "Ultimate Reunion" on June 7, 2025; and
WHEREAS, Principal Badgley's career is a testament to his unwavering
commitment, visionary leadership, technical expertise, and genuine care for the scholars at
C.E. Byrd High School and the Shreveport academic community at large; and
WHEREAS, the community could not be more grateful for Principal Badgley's
contributions, leadership, loyalty, and the legacy he leaves behind.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend and congratulate Mr. Gerald "Jerry" Badgley on the occasion of his
retirement as principal of C.E. Byrd High School and for his extraordinary contributions to
the Shreveport community, and does hereby extend "Yellow Jacket" best wishes for a happy
and rewarding future.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to C.E.
Byrd High School Principal Gerald "Jerry" Badgley.
