A RESOLUTION
To extend sincere and heartfelt condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
upon the passing of Rubye Helen Jackson.
WHEREAS, it is with deep respect that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
recognizes the remarkable life and enduring legacy of Mrs. Rubye Helen Jackson, who
departed this life on April 13, 2026, at the age of ninety-four, leaving behind an indelible
record of faith, service, and dedication to her family, her community, and the state of
Louisiana; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Jackson was born on August 22, 1931, in Keatchie, Louisiana, to
Theodore and Mary B. McClure, who instilled in her the foundational values of faith,
education, and selfless service that would define her life; and
WHEREAS, she accepted Jesus Christ as her savior at an early age and was a
devoted member of Avenue Baptist Church in Shreveport, Louisiana, where her spiritual
leadership and unwavering commitment to the ministry served as a beacon of light for the
congregation; and
WHEREAS, a proud graduate of the final class of Central Colored High School in
Shreveport, she continued her academic pursuits at Southern University in Baton Rouge,
Louisiana, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in education in 1953; and
WHEREAS, that same year, she married Alphonse Jackson Jr., and together they
raised their beloved family, including their two cherished daughters, Lydia Patrice and
Angela Eileen, while remaining steadfast in their commitment to public service; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Jackson was a dedicated educator for more than thirty years,
serving students in Webster Parish and Caddo Parish first as a teacher and later, after earning
a Master's degree in counseling from New York University, as a guidance counselor; and
WHEREAS, her career was defined by a tireless advocacy for the youth of Northwest
Louisiana, leaving a lasting imprint on generations of students whose lives were transformed
by her mentorship, compassion, and academic guidance; and

WHEREAS, following her retirement in 1986, she continued her mission of service
as a board member of Volunteers of America of North Louisiana and the Regional Mental
Health Association, earning the distinguished title of Louisiana State Volunteer of the Year
in 1987 for her meaningful work with the "I Am Thumbody" program; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Jackson was a distinguished member of Alpha Kappa Alpha
Sorority, Incorporated, and was honored on January 31, 2026, by the Delta Lambda Omega
Chapter as a "Diamond Soror", commemorating seventy-five years of exemplary sisterhood
and service to all mankind; and
WHEREAS, she is survived by many who will honor her legacy and memory,
including her loving daughters, Lydia Patrice and Angela Eileen; her devoted friend of more
than sixty years, Evelyn G. Valore; and a vast network of family, friends, and "adopted"
loved ones who knew her affectionately as "Aunt Helen"; and
WHEREAS, the widespread outpouring of tributes from throughout the state stands
as a testament to the profound respect and admiration she earned as a pillar of grace,
intelligence, and community strength.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby extend sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the passing of Rubye Helen
Jackson and does hereby honor her legacy and outstanding contributions to education and
community service.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
family of Mrs. Rubye Helen Jackson.
