1Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
2Sec. 1. 12 MRSA §11152, sub-§5-B is enacted to read:
35-B. Permit transfer to junior hunter. A person with a valid junior hunting license
4 may take an antlerless deer if another person who is 18 years of age or older and holds a
5 valid antlerless deer permit transfers that permit to that junior hunter by identifying the
6 name and address of the transferee on the permit as well as any other information
7 reasonably requested by the commissioner. The transferor shall return the permit to the
8 department within 48 hours after the transfer of the permit. Upon transfer of the antlerless
9 deer permit to a junior hunter, the transferor may not hunt antlerless deer but shall provide
10 direct supervision of the junior hunter while hunting.
11 The commissioner shall record a transfer under this subsection. A valid antlerless deer
12 permit must be in the possession of the transferee in order for the transferee to hunt
13 antlerless deer.
14SUMMARY
15 This bill allows a person who is 18 years of age or older and in possession of a valid
16 antlerless deer permit to transfer that permit to a person with a valid junior hunting license.
17 The bill establishes a process for this transfer: the permit holder must identify the name and
18 address of the junior hunter on the permit and any additional information, if requested by
19 the Commissioner of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and return the permit to the Department
20 of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife within 48 hours after the transfer of the permit. The
21 transferor may not hunt antlerless deer but must provide supervision of the junior hunter
22 while hunting.
