1Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
2Sec. 1. 25 MRSA c. 415 is enacted to read:

4AGREEMENTS WITH FEDERAL IMMIGRATION ENFORCEMENT

6§3891. Agreements with federal immigration enforcement authorities
71. Definitions. As used in this section, unless the context otherwise indicates, the
8 following terms have the following meanings.
9 A. "Law enforcement agency" has the same meaning as in Title 5, section 4751,
10 subsection 1.
11 B. "Law enforcement officer" has the same meaning as in Title 5, section 4751,
12 subsection 2.
132. Prohibition on agreements with federal immigration enforcement authorities.
14 A law enforcement agency or law enforcement officer may not enter into a written or oral
15 contract, agreement or arrangement that grants federal immigration enforcement authority
16 or powers to the law enforcement agency or law enforcement officer, including an
17 agreement pursuant to 8 United States Code, Section 1357(g).
18SUMMARY
19 This bill prohibits state or local law enforcement agencies or officers from entering
20 into contracts with federal immigration enforcement authorities.
