1Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
2Sec. 1. 21-A MRSA §552, sub-§2, as amended by PL 2023, c. 289, §1, is further
3 amended to read:
42. Term. "Term" means, for the purposes of the term of a state Senator or member of
5 the House of Representatives, a full term of office or any portion of a term that began before
6 the 3rd Wednesday in June in an odd‑numbered year served by an elected official in an
7 office subject to the provisions of this chapter. For the purposes of the term of the Secretary
8 of State, Treasurer of State, Attorney General or State Auditor, "term" means a full term of
9 office or any portion of a term that began before the first Wednesday in December in an
10 odd-numbered year served by an elected official in an office subject to the provisions of
11 this chapter.
12SUMMARY
13 This bill changes the earliest starting point of a partial term that the Secretary of State,
14 Treasurer of State, Attorney General or State Auditor may serve without it being considered
15 a term for purposes of term limits from the 3rd Wednesday in June in an odd-numbered
16 year to the first Wednesday in December in an odd-numbered year.
