1Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
2Sec. 1. 29-A MRSA §1260, as enacted by PL 2017, c. 27, §1 and affected by §10,
3 is repealed.
4Sec. 2. 29-A MRSA §1405, sub-§3-A, as amended by PL 2019, c. 352, §6, is
5 further amended to read:
63-A. Fee. The fee for a duplicate registration certificate is $5. The fee for a duplicate
7 learner's permit, duplicate license or duplicate nondriver identification card is $5. The fee
8 for a duplicate license or duplicate nondriver identification card under section 1260 is $30.
9 The fee for the expedited issuance of a duplicate license or nondriver identification card,
10 including the expedited issuance of a duplicate license or nondriver identification card
11 under section 1260, is an additional $10. The reason for the expedited issuance must be
12 provided, and the Secretary of State shall determine if expedited issuance is warranted.
13Sec. 3. 29-A MRSA §1406-A, sub-§1, ¶A, as amended by PL 2017, c. 27, §5 and
14 affected by §10, is further amended by repealing subparagraph (2).
15Sec. 4. 29-A MRSA §1406-A, sub-§1, ¶B, as amended by PL 2017, c. 27, §5 and
16 affected by §10, is further amended by repealing subparagraph (2).
17Sec. 5. 29-A MRSA §1406-A, sub-§2, ¶B, as amended by PL 2019, c. 352, §7, is
18 repealed.
19Sec. 6. 29-A MRSA §1406-A, sub-§2, ¶D, as amended by PL 2019, c. 352, §7, is
20 repealed.
21Sec. 7. 29-A MRSA §1410, sub-§11, as enacted by PL 2017, c. 27, §7 and affected
22 by §10, is repealed.
23SUMMARY
24 This bill repeals the law that permits the Secretary of State, upon request of an
25 applicant, to issue a driver's license or a nondriver identification card that meets the
26 standards of the federal REAL ID Act of 2005, Public Law 109-13. The bill also repeals
27 provisions of law that concern fees for REAL ID licenses and identification cards.
