1Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
2Sec. 1. 30-A MRSA §3015 is enacted to read:
3§3015. Regulation of exterior lights
4 A municipality may adopt an ordinance to regulate an exterior light to prevent the
5 brilliance or positioning of the exterior light from causing undue annoyance or otherwise
6 adversely affecting the health or safety of a member of the public or the enjoyment or use
7 of another property, including requiring the exterior light to be positioned to shine
8 downward or otherwise be directed away from the public or another property or be
9 equipped with a shield to narrow the beam of light projected by the exterior light.
10SUMMARY
11 This bill allows municipalities to adopt ordinances to regulate exterior lights to prevent
12 the brilliance or positioning of the exterior lights from causing undue annoyance or
13 otherwise adversely affecting the health or safety of a member of the public or enjoyment
14 or use of another property, including requiring the exterior light to be positioned to shine
15 downward or be equipped with a shield to narrow the beam of light projected by the exterior
16 light.
