1Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
2Sec. 1. 15 MRSA §810, sub-§4 is enacted to read:
34. Docketing of assignment of counsel. Assignment of competent defense counsel
4 pursuant to subsection 2 or 3 must be docketed within 24 hours of the assignment,
5 excluding Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, if the defendant is incarcerated at the time of
6 the assignment.
7SUMMARY
8 This bill requires assignment of competent defense counsel to an accused person who
9 is indigent within 24 hours of such assignment if the accused is incarcerated.
