1Sec. 1. Pilot project. Resolved: That the Department of Health and Human
2 Services shall establish a pilot project lasting 18 months that allows individuals currently
3 receiving services under rule Chapter 101: MaineCare Benefits Manual, Chapter II, Section
4 19, Home and Community Benefits for the Elderly and Adults with Disabilities, to receive
5 up to $2,000 each in nonmedical transportation services that are specified in the individual's
6 service plan when the individual has no other means of transportation, in addition to
7 currently permissible medical transportation. The department shall provide written notice
8 to these recipients regarding the availability of the pilot project. The department shall
9 submit a report to the Joint Standing Committee on Health and Human Services with an
10 evaluation of the costs and effectiveness of the pilot project and an assessment regarding
11 its long-term viability no later than December 3, 2025. The committee may report out
12 legislation based on the report to the Second Regular Session of the 132nd Legislature.
13SUMMARY
14 This resolve requires the Department of Health and Human Services to develop a pilot
15 project lasting 18 months that provides nonmedical transportation services to individuals
16 receiving services pursuant to rule Chapter 101: MaineCare Benefits Manual, Chapter II,
17 Section 19, Home and Community Benefits for the Elderly and Adults with Disabilities, in
18 an amount up to $2,000, in addition to currently permissible medical transportation
19 services. The department is required to submit a report regarding the costs, effectiveness
20 and future viability of the pilot project to the Joint Standing Committee on Health and
21 Human Services no later than December 3, 2025.
