1Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
2Sec. 1. 36 MRSA §652, as amended by PL 2023, c. 360, Pt. A, §6, is further
3 amended by enacting at the end a new paragraph to read:
4 Notwithstanding any provision of this section to the contrary, if the governing body of
5 a municipality by vote determines that granting an exemption under this section would be
6 detrimental to the residents of that municipality, the governing body may limit the amount
7 of the exemption granted to an organization or institution pursuant to this section.
8SUMMARY
9 This bill provides a municipality the power to limit the amount of a property tax
10 exemption given to a nonprofit institution or organization when the municipality
11 determines by vote that such an exemption would be detrimental to the residents of that
12 municipality.
