1Be it enacted by the People of the State of Maine as follows:
2Sec. 1. 22 MRSA §3174-PPP is enacted to read:
3§3174-PPP. Reimbursement for certain weight loss medications
4 The department shall provide reimbursement under the MaineCare program for
5 glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists that are approved by the federal Food and Drug
6 Administration for the treatment of obesity. The department shall restrict reimbursement
7 under the MaineCare program of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists to medications
8 prescribed by a primary care provider or a bariatric specialist and shall require a prior
9 authorization of the medication.
10SUMMARY
11 This bill requires the Department of Health and Human Services to provide
12 reimbursement under the MaineCare program for glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists
13 that are approved by the federal Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of obesity.
14 The department must restrict reimbursement to medications prescribed by a primary care
15 provider or a bariatric specialist and must require a prior authorization of the medication.
