AN ACT concerning 1

Anne Arundel County – Sheriff – Appointment of Majors 2

FOR the purpose of requiring that authorizing the Sheriff of Anne Arundel County to 3
appoint a certain number of majors who serve at the pleasure of the Sheriff at a salary 4
determined by the County Council of Anne Arundel County; and generally relating 5
to the Office of the Sheriff of Anne Arundel County. 6

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, 4
That the Laws of Maryland read as follows: 5

Article – Courts and Judicial Proceedings 6

2–315. 7

(a) This section applies only in Anne Arundel County. 8

(c) (1) The Sheriff shall appoint deputies at a salary as provided by the County 9
Council of Anne Arundel County. 10

(2) The Sheriff may appoint a chief deputy who shall serve at the pleasure 11
of the Sheriff. 12

(3) THE SHERIFF SHALL MAY APPOINT THREE MAJORS WHO SHALL 13
SERVE AT THE PLEASUR E OF THE SHERIFF AT A SALARY AS PROVI DED BY THE 14
COUNTY COUNCIL OF ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY. 15

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect 16
October 1, 2026. 17
