AN ACT concerning 1

Public Schools – School Mapping Data – Radius of School Grounds 2

FOR the purpose of requiring the school mapping data produced with funding from the 3
School Mapping Data Program to contain certain labeling that matches a certain 4
radius surrounding the school grounds; and generally relating to school mapping 5
data. 6

BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments, 7

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, 12
That the Laws of Maryland read as follows: 13

Article – Education 14

7–1510.1. 15

(d) (4) At a minimum, school mapping data produced with funding from the 16
Program shall: 17

(i) Be compatible with software platforms used by the school and 1
local, State, and federal public safety agencies that provide emergency services to the school 2
without requiring the purchase of additional software or charging a fee to view or access 3
the data; 4

(ii) Be in a printable format and, if requested, be in a digital file 5
format that can be integrated into interactive mobile platforms; 6

(iii) Be verified for accuracy by a walk –through of the school 7
buildings and grounds; 8

(iv) Be oriented true north; 9

(v) Be overlaid on current aerial imagery; 10

(vi) Contain site –specific labeling that matches the structure of 11
school buildings, including: 12

1. Room labels; 13

2. Hallway names; 14

3. External door or stairwell numbers; and 15

4. Locations of: 16

A. Hazards; 17

B. Critical utility locations; 18

C. Key boxes; and 19

D. Automated external defibrillators and trauma kits; 20

(vii) Contain site–specific labeling that matches the school grounds, 21
including: 22

1. Parking areas; 23

2. Athletic fields; 24

3. Surrounding roads; and 25

4. Neighboring properties; [and] 26

(VIII) CONTAIN BEGINNING JULY 1, 2026, CONTAIN 1
SITE–SPECIFIC LABELING THAT MATCHES FOR BODIES OF WATER IN THE 1–MILE 2
RADIUS SURROUNDING THE SCHOOL GROUNDS, INCLUDING BODIES OF WATER; AND 3

[(viii)] (IX) Be overlaid with gridded x and y coordinates. 4

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect July 5
1, 2026. 6
