AN ACT concerning 1
General Assembly – Office Space, Services, and Equipment 2
FOR the purpose of repealing the prohibition against a local government subsidizing a 3
member of the General Assembly in the maintenance of office space, services, or 4
equipment; and generally relating to office space, services, and equipment for 5
members of the General Assembly. 6
BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments, 7

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, 12
That the Laws of Maryland read as follows: 13

[(a)] The State shall provide the members of the General Assembly with reasonable 16
office space and services, equipment, and secretarial services, as provided in the State 17
budget. 18
[(b) (1) A municipal corporation, county, or other political subdivision or its 19
governing body may not subsidize a member of the General Assembly in the maintenance 20
of the space, services, or equipment. 21

(2) This subsection does not prohibit the establishment of an office by a 1
political subdivision to maintain liaison between the s ubdivision and the General 2
Assembly.] 3
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect July 4
1, 2026. 5
