AN ACT concerning 1
Charles County – County Inspector General – Authority Over Charles County 2
Public Schools 3
FOR the purpose of authorizing the governing body of Charles County to enact a local law 4
granting an inspector general established by the county certain authority over 5
Charles County Public Schools; and generally relating to Charles County and 6
Charles County Public Schools. 7

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, 13

(A) THIS SECTION APPLIES ONLY TO CHARLES COUNTY. 17
(B) BEGINNING IN 2027, THE GOVERNING BODY OF CHARLES COUNTY MAY, 18
BY LOCAL LAW, GRANT TO AN INSPECTOR GENERAL ESTABLISHED BY THE COUNTY 19
THE SAME AUTHORITY O VER CHARLES COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS THAT AN 20
INSPECTOR GENERAL WO ULD HAVE OVER A DEPA RTMENT OF COUNTY 21
GOVERNMENT. 22

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That it is the intent of the General 1
Assembly that if the governing body of Charles County adopts a local law to grant an 2
inspector general established by the county authority over Charles County Public Schools 3
under Section 1 of this Act, the local law shall take effect at the beginning of the term 4
following the initial term of the inspector general established by the county. 5
SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect 6
October 1, 2026. 7
