HOUSE BILL NO. 6091
A bill to amend 1990 PA 187, entitled
"The pupil transportation act,"
by amending section 10 (MCL 257.1810), as amended by 2006 PA 107.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 10. (1) Each school bus owned or operated by a public or 1
private nonpublic school, an agent of a school, a private business, 2
or a unit of government for the transportation of pupils to or from 3
school or school-related events shall must meet or exceed the 4
federal motor vehicle safety standards applicable to the 5
construction and sale of that school bus and for all seating 6

Transportation and Infrastructure.

positions in that vehicle. A school or an agent of a school may 1
transport pupils with disabilities in mobile seating devices in 2
accordance with federal standards specifically applicable to such 3
pupils, their wheelchairs, and related wheelchair securement and 4
occupant protection systems. 5
(2) A vehicle , other than a school bus, with a must not be 6
used to transport pupils to or from school or school-related events 7
in excess of that vehicle's manufacturer's rated seating capacity. 8
of 11 or more passengers, including the driver, shall not be used 9
to transport pupils to or from school or school-related events. 10
This subsection does not apply to motor buses that are described in 11
section 10a. 12
