SENATE BILL NO. 1002
A bill to amend 2001 PA 181, entitled
"An act to authorize the board of a school district to award high
school diplomas to World War II veterans and Korean conflict
veterans under certain circumstances; and to prescribe duties and
responsibilities of certain state officers and officials,"
(MCL 35.341 to 35.343) by amending the title, as amended by 2003 PA
203, and by adding section 341a.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
TITLE 1
An act to authorize the board of a school district to award 2
high school diplomas to World War II veterans and Korean conflict 3
May 21, 2026, Introduced by Senators SHINK, MCMORROW, GEISS, BAYER, DAMOOSE,
KLINEFELT and POLEHANKI and referred to Committee on Education.

veterans under certain circumstances; to authorize the board of a 1
school district to award high school diplomas to women who 2
supported the war effort during World War II under certain 3
circumstances; and to prescribe duties and responsibilities of 4
certain state officers and officials. 5
Sec. 341a. (1) The board of a school district may award a high 6
school diploma to a woman who did not complete high school during 7
World War II because that woman left high school to join the 8
workforce or to join the war effort. In order to obtain a high 9
school diploma under this section, a woman described in this 10
subsection must apply in a form and manner prescribed by the 11
Michigan veterans affairs agency and must meet both of the 12
following requirements: 13
(a) Between December 16, 1940 and December 31, 1946, the woman 14
left high school prior to graduation to join the workforce or to 15
join the war effort. 16
(b) The woman did not graduate from high school. 17
(2) An application for a diploma under this section may be 18
completed by the woman's spouse, brother or sister, children, 19
grandchildren, or any other individual designated by the woman 20
applying for a diploma under this section. 21
