SENATE BILL NO. 891

A bill to amend 2002 PA 713, entitled
"Child abduction broadcast act,"
by amending the title and sections 1, 2, and 5 (MCL 28.761, 28.762,
and 28.765).
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
TITLE 1
An act to provide for the broadcast of information concerning 2
a child abduction on or a missing child by radio and television 3
stations; and to prescribe the content of the information 4
March 26, 2026, Introduced by Senators CHERRY, MCCANN and CHANG and referred to
Committee on Civil Rights, Judiciary, and Public Safety.

broadcast. 1
Sec. 1. This act shall be known and may be cited as the "child 2
abduction and missing child broadcast act". 3
Sec. 2. A radio or television station receiving that receives 4
information concerning a child abduction or a report of a missing 5
child from the Michigan department of state police pursuant to 6
under the Michigan Amber alert of Michigan act, 2002 PA 712, MCL 7
28.751 to 28.755, may broadcast that information in any manner 8
designed to assist in the location of the abducted or missing child 9
or apprehension of any suspect, including, but not limited to, 10
through social media. 11
Sec. 5. A radio or television station that accurately 12
broadcasts information concerning a child abduction or a missing 13
child obtained from the Michigan department of state police 14
pursuant to under the Michigan Amber alert of Michigan act, 2002 PA 15
712, MCL 28.751 to 28.755, is immune from any liability based on 16
the broadcast of that information. 17
Enacting section 1. This amendatory act does not take effect 18
unless Senate Bill No. 892 of the 103rd Legislature is enacted into 19
law. 20
