SENATE BILL NO. 905

A bill to designate Diwali, Deepavali, or the Festival of
Lights as a holiday in this state.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 1. The legislature declares that the new moon day on the 1
eighth lunar month, according to the Indic pūrṇimānta lunisolar 2
calendar, shall be known as "Diwali", "Deepavali", or the "Festival 3
of Lights", a holiday celebrated by Hindus and Jains. 4
April 21, 2026, Introduced by Senators POLEHANKI, IRWIN, SHINK, CHANG, CAVANAGH,
MCMORROW, BAYER, KLINEFELT and SINGH and referred to Committee on
Government Operations.
