SENATE BILL NO. 984

A bill to amend 1984 PA 431, entitled
"The management and budget act,"
(MCL 18.1101 to 18.1594) by adding section 271.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF MICHIGAN ENACT:
Sec. 271. A state agency shall not use software to create an 1
official communication or document that contains a person's name 2
unless the software allows hyphens, bicapitalization, and 3
apostrophes to be used in the person's name and produces the 4
person's name accurately on the communication or document. 5
May 20, 2026, Introduced by Senators MCBROOM, DALEY, MCMORROW, MCCANN,
GEISS, SANTANA, VICTORY, MOSS, HUIZENGA and DAMOOSE and referred to
Committee on Oversight.
