A bill for an act relating to elections; requiring the secretary of state to provide voter and election data to an agency or department of the federal government; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 200. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: Section 1. new text begin [200.39] ACCESS TO VOTER AND ELECTION DATA. new text end new text begin (a) Notwithstanding chapter 13 or 201 or any other law to the contrary, the secretary of state must, upon request, provide to an agency or department of the federal government any data that relates to voters and elections in this state. If requested pursuant to this section, the secretary of state must provide all data in the statewide voter registration system. The secretary of state must provide data no later than 180 calendar days after the request was made or no later than the 90th day prior to the next regularly scheduled election, whichever occurs sooner. new text end new text begin (b) For purposes of this section, "voters" includes but is not limited to individuals who attempted to register but were not ultimately registered to vote, individuals whose voter registration is not current, and individuals who registered to vote but never voted. new text end new text begin EFFECTIVE DATE. new text end new text begin This section is effective the day following final enactment and applies to requests for data made on or after that date. new text end
