A bill for an act relating to education finance; authorizing a career and technical education demonstration pilot grant for Independent School District No. 31, Bemidji; requiring a report; appropriating money. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: Section 1. new text begin APPROPRIATION; CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION PILOT PROGRAM. new text end new text begin Subdivision 1. new text end new text begin Department of Education. new text end new text begin The sum indicated in this section is appropriated from the general fund to the Department of Education in the fiscal year designated. new text end new text begin Subd. 2. new text end new text begin Career and technical program expansion. new text end new text begin (a) For Independent School District No. 31, Bemidji, for a pilot grant to demonstrate the benefits to students from an updated machine shop as part of the district's career and technical education programming: new text end new text begin $ new text end new text begin 500,000 new text end new text begin ..... new text end new text begin 2027 new text end new text begin (b) The grant funds must be used to help modernize the machine shop as part of the school district's career and technical education programs. The grant funds may be used to purchase new equipment; to update and repair existing equipment; and for travel, training, installation costs, and contracted services. new text end new text begin (c) By February 1, 2028, the district must report to the chairs and ranking minority members of the legislative committees with jurisdiction over kindergarten through grade 12 education on the activities funded by this appropriation. The report must include but is not limited to information about: new text end new text begin (1) student participation rates in the machine shop, including changes in participation over time; new text end new text begin (2) demographic information about the students served by the machine shop; new text end new text begin (3) a summary of career readiness skills developed by the students; new text end new text begin (4) partnerships with higher education and industry; and new text end new text begin (5) recommendations for state actions that could improve career and technical education programming for all school districts. new text end new text begin (d) This is a onetime appropriation and is available until June 30, 2028. new text end
