A bill for an act relating to environment; requiring a report on fluoropolymers used in consumer products. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: Section 1. new text begin FLUOROPOLYMERS IN CONSUMER PRODUCTS; REPORT. new text end new text begin (a) By February 15, 2028, the commissioner of the Pollution Control Agency must submit a report to the chairs and ranking minority members of the legislative committees with jurisdiction over environment and natural resources that includes an assessment of: new text end new text begin (1) the statutory and regulatory authority, administrative infrastructure, research capabilities, and funding necessary to develop and implement a program for reviewing fluoropolymers used in consumer products and their potential threat to human health and the environment; new text end new text begin (2) available scientific data regarding fluoropolymers; new text end new text begin (3) other state and federal statutory and regulatory actions taken regarding fluoropolymers; and new text end new text begin (4) potential critical uses of fluoropolymers and their relation to the supply chain. new text end new text begin (b) For purposes of this section, "fluoropolymers" means fluorinated polymers consisting of polymeric substances for which the backbone of the polymer is either a perfluorinated or polyfluorinated carbon-only backbone or a perfluorinated polyether. new text end
