A bill for an act

relating to health; allowing a parent to request one free certified birth record per

child; amending Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 144.226, by adding a subdivision.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 144.226, is amended by adding a subdivision

to read:

Birth record fees waived for one certified birth record per child.

Effective

July 1, 2027, one parent listed on a child's birth record may request one $0 fee certified

birth record per child, and the state registrar or local issuance office receiving the request

must not charge the fees specified in this section to issue that birth record. Additional

certified birth records issued from the same record must be purchased with a separate request.
