Escort requirements for oversized loads modified.
A bill for an act relating to transportation; modifying escort requirements for certain oversized loads; amending Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 169.812, by adding a subdivision. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 169.812, is amended by adding a subdivision to read: new text begin Subd. 4. new text end new text begin Manufactured or modular homes. new text end new text begin (a) This subdivision applies to an overdimensional load that is a manufactured home or modular home, as defined in section 327.31, subdivisions 6 and 23. new text end new text begin (b) Where no licensed peace officer escort is required under subdivision 2 but a licensed peace officer requires that an overdimensional load retain a licensed peace officer escort: new text end new text begin (1) the licensed peace officer that imposes the requirement in excess of subdivision 2 must not serve as the licensed peace officer escort or receive compensation for the service of a licensed peace officer escort; and new text end new text begin (2) the commissioner of public safety must pay the cost of the licensed peace officer escort from existing department funds and must establish a procedure for this purpose. new text end new text begin (c) An overdimensional load that briefly crosses the centerline as permitted by section 169.18 does not extend beyond the left of the centerline for the purposes of subdivision 2, paragraph (d). new text end
