A bill for an act relating to public safety; prohibiting state and local units of government and law enforcement agencies from acquiring military-grade weapons from the Pentagon's 1033 program; proposing coding for new law in Minnesota Statutes, chapter 626. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: Section 1. new text begin [626.999] PROHIBITION ON PARTICIPATING IN PENTAGON'S 1033 PROGRAM. new text end new text begin (a) As used in this section, "military-grade weapons" means militarily equipped vehicles and aircraft, weapons and other objects designed to primarily have a military purpose or offensive capability, and ammunition. Military-grade weapons does not include items that are not weapons, such as generators and medical aid equipment. new text end new text begin (b) A state or local unit of government or law enforcement agency must not acquire military-grade weapons pursuant to section 1033 of the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 1997, codified in United States Code, title 10, section 2576a, as amended. new text end
