Preserving Girls Sports Act establishment
A bill for an act relating to education; preserving girls sports; amending Minnesota Statutes 2024, sections 121A.04, by adding a subdivision; 128C.02, by adding a subdivision. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 121A.04, is amended by adding a subdivision to read: new text begin Subd. 4a. new text end new text begin Preserving girls sports. new text end new text begin (a) This subdivision may be cited as the "Preserving Girls Sports Act." new text end new text begin (b) A school-sponsored interscholastic, intramural, or club athletic team must be expressly designated as one of the following categories of teams based on the biological sex of team members at birth: new text end new text begin (1) males; new text end new text begin (2) females; or new text end new text begin (3) coeducational. new text end new text begin (c) Notwithstanding any law to the contrary, the membership of athletic teams or sports designated for females must only be open to participants who were biological females at birth. new text end new text begin EFFECTIVE DATE. new text end new text begin This section is effective the day following final enactment. new text end Sec. 2.
