BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

(a) For purposes of this section, the following terms have

the meanings given.

(b) "Municipality" has the meaning given in section 462.352, subdivision 2.

(c) "Sign" means any device, structure, fixture, or placard using graphics, symbols, or

written copy visible to and primarily intended to advertise and inform or to attract the

attention of (1) pedestrians, or (2) operators or occupants of motor vehicles.

A municipality that removes a sign from a

street right-of-way must contact the owner of the sign within 24 hours of the removal if the

sign includes the owner's contact information. A municipality must establish a process for

an owner to retrieve a removed sign at a reasonable time and place. If a sign is not claimed

and retrieved by an owner within 30 days of the municipality removing the sign, the

municipality may trash, recycle, or otherwise dispose of the sign.
