A bill for an act

relating to education; waiving certain graduation requirements for international

baccalaureate program students; amending Minnesota Statutes 2024, section

120B.024, by adding a subdivision.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:

Section 1.

Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 120B.024, is amended by adding a subdivision

to read:

Waiver for international baccalaureate program students.

(a) Starting in

the 2026-2027 school year, upon receiving a student's application signed by the student's

parent or guardian, a school district or charter school must declare that a student meets the

graduation credit requirements under subdivision 1 if the district or charter school determines

that the student:

(1) is on track by the beginning of grade 11 to meet the requirements of an international

baccalaureate diploma program or an international baccalaureate career-related program;

and

(2) would be precluded from participating in the international baccalaureate diploma

program or international baccalaureate career-related program if the student were required

to complete a credit to be waived.

(b) A district or charter school may revoke the waiver for a student who is not on track

at the beginning of grade 12 to meet the requirements of an international baccalaureate

diploma program or an international baccalaureate career-related program. A student whose

waiver is revoked must complete the credit requirements under subdivision 1.
