HOUSE BILL NO. 1098

AN ACT TO RENAME THE ROSS BARNETT RESERVOIR, WHICH EXTENDS 1
THROUGH PORTIONS OF HINDS, RANKIN, MADISON, SCOTT AND LEAKE 2
COUNTIES, THE "B.B. KING RESERVOIR"; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES. 3
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI: 4
SECTION 1. (1) The Ross Barnett Reservoir, which extends 5
through portions of Hinds, Rankin, Madison, Scott and Leake 6
Counties, shall be renamed the "B.B. King Reservoir." 7
(2) The Department of Finance and Administration in 8
conjunction with the Pearl River Valley Water Supply District 9
shall prepare or have prepared signage and distinctive plaques to 10
be placed in prominent locations within each county of the 11
reservoir basin displaying the "B.B. King Reservoir" which state 12
the backgrounds, accomplishments and service to the state of B.B. 13
King. The Department of Finance and Administration, in 14
conjunction with the Pearl River Valley Water Supply District, 15
shall erect or cause to be erected proper lettering or signage on 16
the outdoor facade of the reservoir control tower displaying the 17
official name of the reservoir as the "B.B. King Reservoir." The 18

Department of Finance and Administration may expend all funds 19
necessary to accomplish this act from funds appropriated by the 20
Legislature for such purpose. 21
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from 22
and after July 1, 2026. 23
