AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 5-1-41, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO 1
INCREASE THE SALARY OF EACH SENATOR AND REPRESENTATIVE, BEGINNING 2
JANUARY 1, 2029, TO AN AMOUNT EQUAL TO FIFTEEN PERCENT OF THE 3
SALARY OF THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI; AND FOR 4
RELATED PURPOSES. 5
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI: 6
SECTION 1. Section 5-1-41, Mississippi Code of 1972, is 7
amended as follows: 8
[Until January 1, 2029, this section shall read as follows:] 9
5-1-41. Beginning with the 1986 Regular Session of the 10
Legislature of the State of Mississippi, each Senator and 11
Representative of the Legislature shall receive as compensation at 12
each regular session the sum of Ten Thousand Dollars ($10,000.00) 13
and the mileage allowance provided by Section 25-3-41, for each 14
mile of the distance by the most direct route usually traveled in 15
coming to and returning from the place where the Legislature sits. 16
Beginning on April 16, 1997, each Senator and Representative shall 17
receive for attending each extraordinary session or called session 18
the sum of Seventy-five Dollars ($75.00) per day and mileage at 19

the same rate as per regular session. In addition to the above, 20
beginning on April 16, 1997, each Senator and Representative and 21
the Lieutenant Governor shall receive the sum of One Thousand Five 22
Hundred Dollars ($1,500.00) per month for expenses incidental to 23
his office for every full month of his term, except any month or 24
major fraction thereof when the Legislature is convened in regular 25
or extraordinary session; and payments shall be made to each 26
Senator and Representative and the Lieutenant Governor by the 27
State Treasurer between the first and tenth day of each month 28
following the month for which the payments are due. 29
[From and after January 1, 2029, this section shall read as 30
follows:] 31
5-1-41. * * * Each Senator and Representative of the 32
Legislature shall receive as compensation * * * an amount equal to 33
fifteen percent (15%) of the annual salary of the Governor of the 34
State of Mississippi as established in Section 25-3-31 and the 35
mileage allowance provided by Section 25-3-41, for each mile of 36
the distance by the most direct route usually traveled in coming 37
to and returning from the place where the Legislature sits. * * * 38
Each Senator and Representative shall receive for attending each 39
extraordinary session or called session the sum of Seventy-five 40
Dollars ($75.00) per day and mileage at the same rate as per 41
regular session. In addition to the above, * * * each Senator and 42
Representative and the Lieutenant Governor shall receive the sum 43
of One Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($1,500.00) per month for 44

expenses incidental to his or her office for every full month of 45

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from 52
and after July 1, 2026. 53
