HOUSE BILL NO. 1457

AN ACT TO PROVIDE THAT FOR ANY UTILITY SERVICE CUSTOMERS IN 1
THE TOWN OF WALNUT WHOSE GAS AND WATER METERS WERE NOT READ FOR 2
THE FIVE YEAR PERIOD IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF 3
THIS ACT, SUCH DEBT SHALL BE FORGIVEN FOR AMOUNTS ACCRUED UNTIL 4
JULY 1, 2026; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES. 5
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI: 6
SECTION 1. For any utility service customers in the Town of 7
Walnut whose gas and water meters were not read for the five (5) 8
year period immediately preceding the effective date of this act, 9
such debt shall be forgiven for amounts accrued until the 10
effective date of this act. 11
After the effective date of this act, such customers shall be 12
liable for all charges for water and/or gas services provided to a 13
customer after such date. 14
SECTION 2. Section 1 of this act shall stand repealed on 15
June 30, 2027. 16
SECTION 3. This act shall take effect and be in force from 17
and after July 1, 2026. 18
