AN ACT MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR THE PURPOSE OF PAYING 1

DISTRICT ATTORNEYS OF THE STATE AND PAYING OFFICE EXPENSES OF 3
DISTRICT ATTORNEYS FOR THE FISCAL YEAR 2027. 4
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI: 5
SECTION 1. The following sum, or so much thereof as may be 6
necessary, is appropriated out of any money in the State General 7
Fund not otherwise appropriated, for the purpose of paying 8
salaries and travel expenses of district attorneys, assistant 9
district attorneys, criminal investigators, tort claims 10
assessments, and paying office expenses of district attorneys for 11
the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2026, and ending June 30, 2027.. 12

SECTION 2. The following sum, or so much thereof as may be 14
necessary, is appropriated out of any money in the State 15
Prosecutor Compensation Fund, referred to in Section 99-19-73, 16
Mississippi Code of 1972, for the purpose of paying salaries of 17
assistant district attorneys of the state as authorized in Section 18

25-31-5(1) for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2026, and ending 19
June 30, 2027.................................. $ 491,802.00. 20
SECTION 3. None of the funds authorized in this act shall be 21
used to reimburse district attorneys or their staff for taxable 22
meals incurred within their geographical district. 23
SECTION 4. Of the funds appropriated herein, One Million 24
Seven Hundred Two Thousand Dollars ($1,702,000.00) is provided for 25
office expenses of district attorneys as authorized by Section 26
25-31-8, Mississippi Code of 1972. 27
SECTION 5. It is the intention of the Legislature that the 28
district attorneys and assistant district attorneys of the state 29
shall maintain complete accounting and personnel records related 30
to the expenditure of all funds appropriated in this act and that 31
those records shall be in the same format and level of details as 32
maintained for Fiscal Year 2026. It is further the intention of 33
the Legislature that the budget requests for Fiscal Year 2028 34
shall be submitted to the Joint Legislative Budget Committee in a 35
format and level of detail comparable to the format and level of 36
detail provided during the Fiscal Year 2027 budget request process 37
for each agency and institution appropriated funds within the 38
provisions of this act. 39
SECTION 6. Of the funds provided in Section 1 of this act, 40
Four Hundred Eighty Thousand Eight Hundred Ninety-six Dollars 41
($480,896.00), or so much thereof as may be necessary, is provided 42
to defray the costs of two (2) additional Legal Assistants and one 43

(1) additional Criminal Investigator in the 6th Circuit District 44
Attorney's Office. 45
SECTION 7. Of the funds provided in Section 1 of this act, 46
Three Hundred Seventy-one Thousand Six Hundred Seventy-nine 47
Dollars ($371,679.00), or so much thereof as may be necessary, is 48
provided for two (2) full-time assistant district attorneys and 49
one (1) full-time criminal investigator pursuant to House Bill No. 50
1020, 2023 Regular Session, and engrossed in Section 25-31-37, 51
Mississippi Code of 1972. 52
SECTION 8. It is the intention of the Legislature that with 53
the funds provided herein, the district attorneys shall submit 54
their Five-Year Strategic Plan(s) as required in Section 55
27-103-129(1), Mississippi Code of 1972. 56
SECTION 9. The money herein appropriated shall be paid by 57
the State Treasurer out of any money in the State Treasury to the 58
credit of the proper fund or funds as set forth in this act, upon 59
warrants issued by the State Fiscal Officer; and the State Fiscal 60
Officer shall issue his warrants upon requisitions signed by the 61
proper person, officer or officers, in the manner provided by law. 62
SECTION 10. This act shall take effect and be in force from 63
and after July 1, 2026. 64
