HOUSE BILL NO. 223

AN ACT TO DESIGNATE A SEGMENT OF MISSISSIPPI HIGHWAY 537 1
LOCATED IN JONES COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, AS THE "SGT. JOHN HOWARD 2
TANNER MEMORIAL HIGHWAY"; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES. 3
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI: 4
SECTION 1. (1) The segment of Mississippi Highway 537 5
located in Jones County, Mississippi, beginning at Lake Como Road, 6
and extending for a distance of approximately one (1) mile in the 7
southernly direction to Doris Tanner's Flowers located at 3635 8
Mississippi Highway 537, Laurel, Jones County, Mississippi, is 9
designated and shall be known as the "Sgt. John Howard Tanner 10
Memorial Highway." 11
(2) The Mississippi Department of Transportation shall erect 12
and maintain appropriate signs along and approaching the segment 13
of highway described in subsection (1) of this section. 14
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from 15
and after July 1, 2026. 16
