AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 63-3-501, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, 1
TO INCREASE THE SPEED LIMIT ON STATE HIGHWAYS WITHIN THE STATE TO 2
70 MPH AND TO INCREASE THE SPEED LIMIT ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS 3
WITHIN THE STATE TO 75 MPH; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES. 4
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI: 5
SECTION 1. Section 63-3-501, Mississippi Code of 1972, is 6
amended as follows: 7
63-3-501. Except as otherwise provided in this section, no 8
person shall operate a vehicle on the highways of the state at a 9
speed greater than * * * seventy (70) miles per hour. 10
The Mississippi Transportation Commission may, in its 11
discretion, by order duly entered on its minutes, increase the 12
speed restrictions on any portion of the Interstate Highway System 13
provided such speed restrictions are not increased to more 14
than * * * seventy-five (75) miles per hour. The commission may 15
likewise increase the speed limit to * * * seventy-five (75) miles 16
per hour on controlled access highways with four (4) or more 17
lanes. 18

A governmental entity that operates and maintains a toll road 19
as authorized under Section 65-43-1, or that contracts with some 20
person or business to operate and maintain a toll road as 21
authorized under Section 65-43-3, may establish the maximum speed 22
for motor vehicles operated on any such toll road; however, the 23
maximum speed so established may not exceed eighty (80) miles per 24
hour. 25
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from 26
and after July 1, 2026. 27
