HOUSE BILL NO. 639

AN ACT MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF 1
JACKSON COUNTY FOR THE PURPOSE OF CONDUCTING A NEEDS ASSESSMENT ON 2
THE LOCATION OF A NEW OFFICE FOR THE COUNTY SHERIFF AT ANY 3
SUITABLE LOCATION IN THE COUNTY, FOR THE FISCAL YEAR 2027. 4
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI: 5
SECTION 1. The following sum, or so much of it as may be 6
necessary, is appropriated out of any money in the State General 7
Fund not otherwise appropriated, to the Board of Supervisors of 8
Jackson County, Mississippi, for the purpose of conducting a needs 9
assessment on the location of a new office for the county sheriff 10
at any suitable location in the county, for the fiscal year 11
beginning July 1, 2026, and ending June 30, 2027....... $ 25,000.00 12
SECTION 2. To conduct the needs assessment authorized under 13
Section 1 of this act, the board of supervisors is authorized to: 14
(a) Contract with an engineering firm to conduct the 15
assessment with the funds appropriated by Section 1; or 16
(b) Provide the funds appropriated by Section 1 to the 17
sheriff's office to contract with an engineering firm to conduct 18
the assessment. 19

SECTION 3. The money appropriated by this act shall be paid 20
by the State Treasurer out of any money in the State General Fund 21
not otherwise appropriated, upon warrants issued by the State 22
Fiscal Officer; and the State Fiscal Officer shall issue his or 23
her warrants upon requisitions signed by the proper person, 24
officer or officers in the manner provided by law. 25
SECTION 4. This act shall take effect and be in force from 26
and after July 1, 2026. 27
