HOUSE BILL NO. 696

AN ACT MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO THE MISSISSIPPI DEPARTMENT 1
OF PUBLIC SAFETY FOR THE PURPOSE OF PROVIDING FUNDING FOR SALARY 2
INCREASES AND REQUIRED STATE-FUNDED FRINGE BENEFITS FOR ACTIVE 3
SWORN OFFICERS OF THE MISSISSIPPI HIGHWAY SAFETY PATROL, 4
MISSISSIPPI BUREAU OF NARCOTICS, MISSISSIPPI BUREAU OF 5
INVESTIGATION AND CAPITOL POLICE, FOR THE FISCAL YEAR 2027. 6
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI: 7
SECTION 1. The following sum, or so much of it as may be 8
necessary, is appropriated out of any money in the State General 9
Fund not otherwise appropriated, to the Mississippi Department of 10
Public Safety for the purpose of providing funding for salary 11
increases and required state-funded fringe benefits for active 12
sworn officers of the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol, 13
Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, Mississippi Bureau of 14
Investigation and Capitol Police, for the fiscal year beginning 15
July 1, 2026, and ending June 30, 2027............ $ 6,000,000.00. 16
SECTION 2. The money appropriated by this act shall be 17
financial support specifically appropriated for any salary 18
increase authorized by Section 45-1-12, Mississippi Code of 1972. 19

Police for FY 2027.
SECTION 3. The money appropriated by this act shall be paid 20
by the State Treasurer out of any money in the State General Fund 21
not otherwise appropriated, upon warrants issued by the State 22
Fiscal Officer; and the State Fiscal Officer shall issue his or 23
her warrants upon requisitions signed by the proper person, 24
officer or officers in the manner provided by law. 25
SECTION 4. This act shall take effect and be in force from 26
and after July 1, 2026. 27
